Abstract
A general, analytic and documented picture on the social and health conditions in Africa, with
the figures of the envisaged and distributed aids and the results obtained during the last few
years, on the culture, on democracy and especially on the paediatric mortality (Millenium
Project) is supplied. The characteristics of the top-down (WB and MIF) and bottom-up (NGO,
Churches, and others) interventions are compared. A brief description of the intervention, which
up to now has lasted 6 years, as well as the results obtained by a small group of Italian paediatricians
in an Angola Hospital and in particular the strategy of prevention and treatment
of severe poor nutrition in Africa.
