Abstract
The case of a 12-day-old boy with supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) is reported. SVT in newborns is a relatively rare disease with only a few cases per year at each perinatal centre. The acute treatment of a single episode of SVT has generally an excellent prognosis and the majority of infants with SVT have a good clinical outcome. Iced water and adenosina are safe and effective, and should become the treatment of choice for termination of supraventricular tachycardia in neonates and young infants. An antiarrhythmic prophylaxis of SVT recurrences is usually recommended during the first year of life.
