Abstract
Nephrotic cortico-sensitive syndrome is a chronic disease difficult to manage. Indeed, it
presents a relapse risk in about 90% of cases and it may develop steroid dependence/
frequent relapse in about 50% of children. The nephrologist and the paediatrician face
with the difficult task of looking for the right treatment: first by administering the right
dose of cortisone and subsequently by choosing the steroid-saver, if needed. The RCTs
reported in a recent review published in Archives of Disease in Childhood suggest new
perspectives on essential treatments. The present article outlines the essential aspects of
said review and reports the relative comments of three Italian specialists in paediatric
nephrology.
