Abstract
The Authors review present knowledge on
nipple fissures, a common breastfeeding
problem, especially focusing on the etiology.
The appropriate position and attachment
of the baby to the breast during the
feeds is particulary stressed for its preventive
role on nipple fissures. Indications are
also given on effective treatment. Finally,
criteria for suspecting candidiasis of the
nipple are suggested.
