Abstract
Firstly described in 1976, acute isolated reversible velopalatopharyngeal emiparalysis is a rare clinical entity characterised by sudden onset of nasal voice, nasal escape of fluids while swallowing and, occasionally, dysphagia. It is usually observed in children and resolves spontaneously within 2-3 weeks. At the state of the art, viral infections and vascular insults are considered as the most probable trigger events, but yet the exact etiopathogenesis of this condition is elusive. The paper reports a case of isolated palatine paralysis in an 11-year-old boy with a benign self-resolving course.
