Abstract
Critically ill and injured children have better outcome when care is provided within the context
of an organized paediatric emergency care service. Many techniques are used to resuscitate
and stabilize the child. Among these techniques, airway management and venous
access are of paramount importance. This article presents the essential approach to the unstable
paediatric patient. Basic airway management and emergency procedures such as
intraosseous access are discussed.
