Abstract
Persistent cry in the young infant is a very frequent problem and represents an area where
opinions and practice among health professionals vary significantly. An interdisciplinary
group of health professionals made an attempt to provide practice guidelines based on
consensus and on availabale evidence. The guidelines include collection of clinical history,
physical examination, diagnostic approach, advice and counselling. The various theories
on etiology of infantile colics are discussed and their practical implication discussed. Particular
attention was paid to maintain and support breastfeeding.
