Abstract
To improve the knowledge on natural history and medical practice relating to undescended testis (UT), the records of 7199 male births were reviewed. Cases with UT were assessed and classified and all subjects with abnormal findings at birth were recalled to investigate about subsequent course and medical interventions. In this population, UT was present in 2.4% of subjects. Follow-up information was available on 95 cases. Practically all spontaneous resolution occurred within the first 6 months of age. Medical treatment was successful in one out of 17 cases. Surgery was performed at an average age of 27.8 months. 15 cases were still untreated at an average age of 32.5 months. Concomitant inguinal hernia was very frequent among UT cases.
