Abstract
The present study takes into consideration the work of a family paediatrician who works in a rural area in central Tuscany. The study concerns the accidents occurred to the assisted patients in twelve months. Overall number of the accidents, child’s sex, age, place where the accident happened, the kind of accident, whether the hospitalization or particular tests were necessary, and the repeatability in the same child were considered. In one year 93 children (10% of the assisted) have had an accident. In half cases the accident occurred in their houses. In 51 cases the child has been brought to the emergency unit. Eight children have undergone surgical operations and/or diagnostic tests. The epidemiological relevance of accidents questions the communication systems used to prevent them.
