Abstract
Acute hemorrhagic edema is an uncommon leukocytoclastic
small-vessel vasculitis that may affect young
children. In literature only few cases have been reported (294
cases). In many cases the disease developed after a simple
acute infection. The exanthema includes large, round, red to
purpuric plaques predominant over the cheeks, ears and extremities
and often tender edema of face. Involvement of
body systems is rare. The children recover spontaneously
without sequelae. We report a case of a 9-month boy, who
presented with cockade purpura one week after gastroenteric
infection. This is the second case described in our pediatric
division in 33 years.
