Abstract
This article reports on the cases of seven children observed in a tertiary care children’s
hospital who were affected by different respiratory diseases. Their clinical presentation
was invariably characterized by common respiratory symptoms, such as cough, wheezing,
stridor and shortness of breath. The work aims at stimulating the paediatrician to
strongly consider alternative diagnoses in conjunction with more obvious ones. Knowledge,
clinical reasoning and fullness of common sense are the bedrock of the art of medicine
and should always guide the physician in their everyday medical practice.
