White noise: an on-trend remedy for sleep disorders

Abstract
Burns are common causes of preventable morbility and mortality in children. Accidental burns caused by hairdryers have been observed in newborns over the last few years. This can be due to the use of white noise as an on-trend remedy to induce sleep in newborns with sleep disorders or colic. White noise is a noise containing many frequencies with equal intensities. Examples of white noise in nature are the serene sound of rainfall and that of ocean waves crashing onto the shore. Examples of white noise at home are the sound of hairdryers, vacuum cleaners, and washing machines. The paper reports the case of a newborn with a burn injury due to repetitive hairdryer use.
