Abstract
Recurrent respiratory tract infections (RRI) constitute an important public health problem,
they are among the main causes of morbidity in paediatric age and one of the most frequent
reasons for prescribing antibiotics. Their management has a significant impact on
the children’s quality of life and their families, as well as on direct and indirect health
costs. It seems that the main strategy to reduce the risk, the number of episodes of RRI
and therefore their impact on children, families and society, is prevention that is based
on the communication with parents and on the elimination/reduction of risk factors. Immunomodulants/
immunostimulants (IM), whose use is widely discussed in the literature,
can be useful in specific cases of difficult family management of children with RRI.
