Abstract
Treatment of obesity has been characterized sofar by the application of strict rules and
diets, aiming at short term results. An alternative strategy is proposed, based on a gradual
ecosystemic approach which includes the family and aimes to enhance autonomy and responsibility.
Within this strategy the family doctor plays a more complex role,as educator,
behavioural therapist and observer of the familial ecosystem. It is a radical change, which
the Authors propose for a more formal evaluation
