Abstract
The article reports the case of a 13 year-old male presenting to the Emergency Unit with nausea, vomiting and sudden headache. He had no focal neurological deficits and basic laboratory tests were normal. The basal computerized tomography evidenced an elongated intraventricular hyperdense lesion and the findings suggested a choroid plexus papilloma or bleeding. Cerebral angiography diagnosed an arterio-venous malformation of the choroid plexus, with haemorrhage in the posterior horn of the left lateral cerebral ventricle, which was treated specifically. Spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhages are rare in paediatric age and the leading cause is a rupture of arterio-venous malformations. The main symptom is headache, which is common in children, thus an accurate diagnostic evaluation is required.
