Abstract
The present work reports a case of a 6-year-old child with a diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis. The relevance of this case is in the complex aetiology of the pancreatitis with a genetic mutation of SPINK1 gene (N34S) and a probable functional issue (sphincter of Oddi dysfunction). The paper supports the hypothesis that SPINK 1 N34S mutation is a necessary but not sufficient condition to induce an acute recurrent/chronic pancreatitis. In addition, for a prompt and effective therapeutic management, the article highlights the need to find out a putative trigger for recurrent chronic pancreatitis in similar gene-linked cases.
