Abstract
A girl noted the appearance of vesicular lesions on her lips and conjunctivitis while she was on a school trip in France. Upon returning to Italy, she went to the Emergency Room of the Hospital Papa Giovanni XXIII in Bergamo where she was admitted for medical investigations. Blood tests revealed neutrophilic leukocytosis and a slightly raised PCR. To complete the diagnosis, given the rhinitis on admission, an oropharyngeal swab was performed that was positive for M. Pneumoniae, a finding also confirmed by serology. The positivity of the serology and oropharyngeal swab for Mycoplasma Pneumoniae suggested, as the most likely diagnosis, a clinical picture of MIRM (Mycoplasma pneumoniae-Induced Rash and Mucositis), a condition characterised precisely by kerato-conjunctivitis, and mucositis of the oral cavity associated or not with skin rash.
