Abstract
The paper reports the case of a 10-year-old boy admitted to the Emergency Room following an episode of loss of consciousness with tonic-clonic movements. While blood tests and neuroimaging (CT and MRI) were unremarkable, a sleep-deprived EEG revealed epileptiform activity. The diagnostic turning point came from the clinical history: for about a year, the patient showed a compulsive tendency to look at the sun (sun staring) and experienced brief absences associated with blinking. These features led to the diagnosis of Sunflower Syndrome, a rare form of paediatric-onset photosensitive generalised epilepsy. The patient was referred for paediatric neurological follow-up and successfully treated with valproic acid, the standard first-line therapy for this condition
