Abstract
Stemming from the data collected in 3 group practices, the advantages and problems of paediatric group practice are discussed. Group pratice can substantially reduce spontaneous referrals to hospital emergency departments and hospital admissions, and favour appropriateness and continuity of care also during weekends. Models of group practice may vary according to local and personal needs, but usually imply a more easy and continuous access to the paediatric office, greater utilization of nurse professionals and of the office laboratory, greater opportunities for continuous education and stimuli to tackle new and emerging problems in child health. Health authorities and professional organizations should provide administrative and financial incentives to support the development of paediatric group practice in Italy.
